Very well placed in the 2013 Guía Peñín

The results of the 2013 Guía Peñín have already been published and we have obtained some excellent results.
Our average score has increased over last year’s results... no less than 11 wines with a score of between 90 and 93 points, which has placed us in the ranking as the best wine cellar in the DO Penedès, the second best in Catalonia and amongst the top 11 in the whole of Spain.

Reserva Martí 2007 and Belat 2008 with 93 points are the cellar’s most emblematic wines. Reserva Martí consolidates its recognised, long-standing quality (26 Gold medals, 18 Silver and 9 Bronze, accumulated over 18 years), which we enjoy year after year, and the Belat, for the confirmation of its success, that of an old variety that offers us a unique wine that is smooth, spicy, elegant and with great staying potential.

Our two varietal wines in the Collection have not been left behind, the Syrah and the Chardonnay, which express character in their varieties in the purest and most refined state.

In addition to the good scores received, 6 of our wines and cavas have been qualified as excellent in their Price-Quality ratio, one of the most important factors, and one most valued by buyers and consumers nowadays.

These results are the fruit of a long, intense period, over 34 years, in which we have delved into ecological and biodynamic vine cultivation techniques in our effort to better adapt the extraordinary lands of the Costers d'Ordal region, and also thanks to the extraordinary care and meticulousness in elaborating our wines, recovering old techniques that sometimes bring back forgotten aromas and flavours or by implementing new techniques that help to perfect the elegance.

NOSODOS +, two new Penedès wines elaborated and bottled without adding sulphites ... the most natural ones in our cellar

Firstly, NOSODOS + Xarel.lo 2012, a youngPenedès wine, fresh and expressive, made with theXarel.lo variety. It comes from a small vineyard planted over 12 years ago in one of the most interesting areas inCosters del Ordal. The estate is made up of three terraces at 400m above sea level with extremely calcareous soil that brings out the best in the Xarel.lo variety, offering freshness and a great concentration of white and citric fruit aromas.

Its partner, the sparkling Brut Natural from the 2011 vintage, which has the same name as the wine, NOSODOS +, is made with a 100% Xarel.lowine base and, following the traditional method, after the second fermentation in the bottle, it ages with its lees for one year.In this case the Xarel.locomes from the Can Milà de la Roca estate, which is also located inCosters del Ordal region. This vineyard, one of the most beautiful on the estate given the layout of its terraces, is ideal for extracting a high quality wine with a great aromatic concentration thanks to its low output, its chalky soil that is poor in organic material and the application of biodynamic cultivation techniques.

This elegant and seductive sparkling wine from Penedès.The bubble is delicate and persistent, letting us enjoy a wide range of ripe white fruits with a perfect balance between acidic freshness and a very complex subtleness in the mouth.

Once again we have chosen the top variety amongst the Penedès whites, the Xarel.lo. Our passion to transmit all that typifies thePenedès region means that this variety is a must when elaborating our wines.

Achieving two great whites, made without adding sulphites, is not just a case of working the vineyard ecologically and having harvested and chosen the grapes by hand before starting the wine-making process.It is also essential to work carefully throughout the whole elaboration process, maintaining high levels of hygiene and asepsis in order to avoid any possible contact with the air and therefore avoid quick oxidisation.

The fact that they are natural and, in order to enjoy their maximum expression, we recommend consuming this wine within six months after it has been bottled, whilst the sparkling wine will offer its maximum splendour during the six months after disgorging.

Albet i Noya and Mas Igneus receive the maximum accolade in the Vinum Nature 2012 awards, the Golden Leaf

Albet i Noya’s (DO Penedès) Pinot Noir-Merlot Clàssic 2011 and Mas Igneus (DOQ Priorat) celler’s FA112 2008 have received the Golden Leaf, the highest accolade awarded byVinum Nature 2012, which is annually organised by Ecomundis, one of the most renowned companies specialising in sustainable management and communication.

After blind tasting 650 wines, which was the basis to classify the ecological Spanish wines for the Vinum Nature 2013 Guide, only fifteen have reached the maximum category and have received the “Golden Leaf” award: “excellent quality ecological wine”.

The award ceremony took place yesterday during the closing act of the EcoSostenibleWine conference, which was held inVilafranca del Penedès and in which there were debates about adapting the current ecological production systems within the scenario that climatic change poses, especially regarding the adaptation and sustainability of vineyards and wine in the immediate future. A subject of great interest for the wine-producing sector and also for the consumer, and that is why we actively participate in it.

We were one of the forum sponsors and Josep Maria Albet was also one of the speakers at the round table that debated themes related to the market and eco-sustainability.

The 2012 vintage is now on the market

We were the first in Europe with the presentation of our new 2012 white wine without added sulphites, NOSODOS +. It was presented just a month ago, in record time, and now we are going to do it again with the presentation of the new,young wines from the same vintage.

The newPetit Albet Blanc, theXarel.loClàssic and the Pinot Noir-Merlot Clàssicwill be available at the end of this week.They are three of the cellar’s reference wines and the most consolidated ones in the market, known for their freshness, youth and aromatic elegance, expressed year after year.

You won’t have to wait much either to taste the 3 Macabeus. One of the other icon white wines born in one of our most beautiful estates where the 65 year old vines offer us the great richness of fresh fruit aromas and minerality, thanks to the Costers del Ordal soil.

The climate this year has left the grapes in excellent health and this has meant that, along with the careful, hand-picked selection of the grape and the quality maintained throughout the elaboration process, we will work each of these varieties in their purist state, conserving their essence and typicity.

 We hope that you can all enjoy this new vintage which is so promising and more ecological than ever before with the incorporation of the new NOSODOS +, the young, white wine and the sparkling brut natural, both without any addedsulphites.

Nosodos +: the white wine with no added sulphites

The best way to see the results of a long and painstaking trajectory in the world of ecological and biodynamic cultivation is to make a wine without adding sulphites.
Taking advantage of the Catalonia Wine and Cava Show, which took place last week in Barcelona, we have presented the first wine in Europe from the 2012 harvest that is made without adding sulphites and that is ecologically cultivated.
Nosodos + is its name. A young white wine made fromXarel.lo, the most expressive and complex variety in thePenedès, and with a small part of Chardonnay. The ecological cultivation, the manual harvesting, the choice of the best grapes, the hygiene and asepsis conditions throughout the process, are essential factors to work without adding sulphites and therefore avoiding their oxidation.
In order to keep its young and aromatic expression, we recommend consumption within the first six months after bottling.

By electric car... more ecological than ever before!

You already know about our long-term commitment to ecology and sustainability... Well, we are not just worried about the environment, the sustainability of the vineyards, recovering experimental varieties, etc, so we have also proposed taking all the necessary steps not to contaminate... apart from converting some company cars to GPL, we have bet on moving around in the cleanest possible way by purchasing a 100% electric car.

The new Renault Zoe becomes a new member of our team and allows us to move around "without smoke and without noise". In a conventional car, where the petrol tank would be, there is an electric battery. A battery that can be charged in an hour and provides over 200 km travelling distance with zero CO2 emissions.

And if you visit us in your electric car you will be able to use our EV charging station for free in order to charge your car while you visit us. A visit with added value for all of those who bet on this type of vehicle, on a more sustainable world and on exquisite wines!

Double gold...

El Fanio 2010 and Syrah Col•lecció 2008 were awarded gold medals at the 2012 DO Penedès Competition.
At the end of May a tasting session was organised with the 7 winning wines from the Monvínic (Barcelona) competition. An event that positioned the high quality of the wines from the Penedès region and its differentiation. The tasting was lead by the sommelier Meritxell Falgueras, who highlighted the freshness of the white and citric fruit of the El Fanio 2008 and the chromatic intensity, the good tears and the fantastic evolution in the bottle of the Syrah Col•lecció 2008.

Biodivine Life+2009 Project

We are taking part in the Biodivine Life+2009 project, whose aim is to demonstrate that the increase in micro-fauna and micro-flora biodiversity in wine-making lands reduces the pressure of endemic vine diseases like Mildew, Oidium , ... The Penedès and another six wine regions (Limoux, Saint-Emilion, Costières de Nîmes, Bourgogne, La Grajera and Alto Duero) have been chosen as the places for these demonstration studies.

The majority of the control and demonstrative actions that are carried out refer to structural landscape changes and harvesting practices: the introduction of diversified vegetable coverings, the creation of green strips in the landscape, stone-wall and other elements management and the use of pheromones to create sexual confusion amongst insect plagues, are some of the actions promoted by the project in order to reach its objective. We are pioneers and a clear example through our 34 years applying ecological cultivation to all of our vineyards (using all the described techniques), with the recuperation of technician in dry stone in two courses and the reconstruction of walls with this technique in Costers d'Ordal.

The importance of the project has meant that six partners from three EU states have become directly involved: The French Institute of the Vigne et du vin (IFV), Vitinnov, The Superior Council of Scientific Research (CSIC), the Barcelona City Council, The Association for Viticultural Development in the Douro Valley (ADVID) and Euroquality.
