Albet i Noya takes medals for two of its red wines in the british contest "Decanter World Wine Awards 2017"

A new first-place award has been won by the vineyard’s flagship red wine, the Reserva Martí, meaning another gold medal. This makes six awards won this year and with the 2009 harvest, currently for sale.

The latter has won the British contest Decanter World Wine Awards 2017, where it was the only still wine from all of Catalonia to win a gold medal. The sparkling wine Clàssic Penedès Argila Brut Nature from the Penedès vineyard Mas Bertran was the other Catalan wine to be awarded a gold medal. So only two wines from the Penedès denomination of origin managed to achieve this honour.

In third place, winning a bronze medal, was another red wine, La Milana 2013 vintage, another leading wine from the Subirats organic vineyard.

Of the 6 gold medals won by Reserva Martí 2009 this year, four were in international contests and two were in national ones, showing its expression and balance over time.

Reserva Martí is a blend of the Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah varieties, aged 2 years in new French oak casks and then rested and refined in the bottle for 4 to 5 years. It was the first organic red wine that Josep Maria Albet i Noya made as a blend when the vineyard first went towards organic wine-making. For this reason, he decided to give it the name of his son, Martí, and to seal the label with a red painting of 3-year-old Martí’s hands.

Only 4,580 bottles were made from this 2009 harvest.
