Introducing Efecte, a new more natural image for our sparkling wines

It’s been nearly 40 years since we decided to make organic wine in our vineyards, and you can see it for yourself just strolling around in the springtime, when you see how the butterflies arrive at the same time that our vines begin to sprout.

Butterflies are very sensitive to chemical products, and they now have a home free of pesticides in the vineyards of the Penedès. With this philosophy, we have just launched a new image for the classic Penedès wines onto the market, which from now on, will be called Efecte.  

Our three sparkling wines Brut Reserva, Brut Nature Reserva, and Rosat Reserva are illustrated with indigenous butterflies that are easy to find at the Albet i Noya vineyards. On the tops of the new wines, you can read a butterfly’s scientific name: Zerynthia rumina for the Brut, Melanargia occitanica for Brut Nature, and Pieris rapae for the Rosat. 

The name Efecte refers to the curious, innovative spirit of the Penedès vineyard where ecology began to beat its wings at the end of the 70’s. Over these nearly 40 years, others in favour of this type of growth, which is more respectful of the environment and favouring of diversity, have joined in.  
Thanks to this “effect”, today the Penedès has become one of the winegrowing regions with the highest percentage of organic vineyards. 

Our sparkling wines, which have been sold since 2012 under the Penedès denomination of origin, didn’t have a name until now, and in this way we sought to give them a personality that is aligned with the principles of the company led by Josep Maria Albet, as was done last year when the “Curiosos” wines came out on the market. 
In both cases, the company in charge of the design and the concept was the Barcelona creative agency La Vildi. 

The Efecte Brut Reserva 2014 is a classic Penedès made with the Parellada, Macabeo and Xarel·lo varieties of grapes, with over 18 months of aging. For its part, the Efecte Brut Nature Reserva 3 2013 has a blend of Macabeo, Parellada, Chardonnay and Xarel·lo grapes aged for 30 months. The Efecte Rosat Reserva 2013 is a single variety of grape, Pinot Noir, aged for 15 months in a riddling rack.
